Dani Alves: Accused of rape tells wife he doesn’t remember anything: ‘I was drunk’

Dani Alves, who was arrested in Barcelona on January 20 on suspicion of rape, told his wife, model Joana Sant, that he did not remember anything that happened at the Sutton nightclub.

The player, according to Brazilian newspaper O’Globo, claimed to have been drunk that night.

A 23-year-old woman accused him of raping her in the bathroom of a nightclub’s VIP area, and after lawyers for both sides presented their positions, authorities deemed a pre-trial detention necessary.

Yesterday, the prosecution applied to the Barcelona court with a request to extend the term of his imprisonment. In her petition, she cited several pieces of evidence that she believes incriminate him, including DNA evidence found last week.

The decision was supposed to be announced yesterday, but has been delayed until next week (Monday or Tuesday) when it will be known whether the case will eventually go to trial.

According to Telecinco, the Brazilian footballer called Joana Sant twice before visiting him in prison. He claimed that he did not remember anything from the night of December 30 because he was drunk.

According to Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the player’s defense admitted for the first time that sexual intercourse took place during the incident that led to the complaint, but still maintains that it was a consensual act.
