
Five former police officers accused of murder of Tyr Nicholsduring their first appearance in court.
Recall that Tadarius Bean, Dimetrius Hali, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin and Justin Schmidt were involved in the Nichols arrest on January 7.
The five defendants were taken into custody following an internal investigation by the Memphis Police Department.
Immediately after the death of Tyr Nichols, a wave of protests erupted in USA against police brutality and arbitrariness.
It is noted that at today’s trial, the Nichols family was “present” in court.
The judge confirmed that the five defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. The accusations concern murder in the second degreeand police officers are also accused of violating “several departmental policies, including excessive use of force, duty to intervene, and duty to assist“.
The officers are currently out on bail and the next hearing is scheduled for May 1.
