
Coins from the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods were in the possession of an androgynous man who was arrested at the archaeological site of Drama after using information from the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Thessaloniki Security Authority.
The 73-year-old man was surveying the ground at the archaeological site with a metal detector and a digging tool, while his 68-year-old wife was also at the scene, according to police. A case was initiated against them for violating the legislation on the protection of ancient monuments.
After an investigation, two silver and eight copper coins were confiscated from the man’s possession and his home, which, according to the archaeologist of the Serra Antiquities Authority, are subject to the protective provisions of the relevant legislation and date back to the 6th century BC. before 1st century BC
Also confiscated were four original books, two photocopies of books and several photocopies relating to ancient coins.
