OUR American Federal Police (FBI) is investigating a hack into its computer network, an incident that is considered isolated and is currently being resolved, the agency said today.
“The FBI is aware of the incident and is working to obtain additional information,” the statement sent to Reuters said, without further clarification.
US television network CNN, which first broke the news citing sources briefed on the incident, said the FBI believed the computers in the agency’s New York offices were being used to investigate cases of child sexual exploitation. It is currently unclear when the breach occurred. A source told CNN that her origins are still under investigation.
Over the past decade, several cyberattacks have been made on American services. In late 2020, officials discovered a massive cyber-espionage operation on several federal networks by hackers linked to Russian intelligence agencies. In 2015, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) also announced that its network had been hacked and records of federal employees had been stolen. He later attributed the attack to Chinese hackers.
