Olympic Games in Paris 2024: watch out for new radars! News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

At the beginning of the week, we were able to learn about the first arrangements for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, which will last just over two months in 2024. Thus, in Ile-de-France, 185 kilometers of tracks will be set aside for persons accredited by the Games Organizing Committee.

These reserved lanes are located on the ring road and also on some highways bordering the capital. Several minor axes also apply near certain strategic locations.

Five more radars on the district

Today, our colleagues at Le Parisien publicize the installation of speed cameras that will be assigned to control these famous “Olympic routes”, which, as a reminder, will be reserved for accredited individuals, organizations, transport professionals or even rescuers.

And watch out for those who don’t respect those reserved lanes. In effect, five new radars will be added to the 18 already present on 35 kilometers of the Paris ring road.

These radars will monitor these Olympic queues and will be able to read license plates and count the number of passengers per vehicle. This second point should also be noted, because in the long run these olympic queues will become permanent and will no doubt become reserved carpool lanes.

Le Parisien clarifies that these radars will not have the function of sanctioning speeding. They will only focus on non-accredited vehicles using these lanes between 6am and midnight. The incurred fine is 135 euros if an unaccredited car flashes on one of these lanes.

The first test is planned for this year

These new boxes will be installed by the end of March. They will be put into operation only during the Olympic and Paralympic competitions, i.e. from 1Er July – September 15, 2024

However, there will be several tests before that, one of which will be full-scale during the Rugby World Cup in September and October 2023. There will be no real fines, but this test will primarily serve to show drivers that they are in the reserve lane.
