In an Aeroport “Domodedovoยป Moscow police detained a Chechen Idris Arsamikovwho went into hiding because he was persecuted for being homosexual.
In 2018, after being tortured, Idris left Russia and took refuge in the Netherlands, where he received political asylum.
In the spring of 2022, he returned to Chechnya for his father’s funeral. He remained there without documents and only the other day managed to leave for Moscow to return to the Netherlands.
At the airport, after the arrest, the police handed him over to Chechen officers, who headed in an unknown direction.
According to the human rights group SK SOS, Arsamikov is being taken to the police department of the Siolkovsky district of Chechnya, where he was tortured and now his life is in danger.
The IC SOS group writes that the head of the police of the Selkovsky district, who signed the corresponding warrant for Arsamikov’s sexual orientation, tortured him with electric shocks during the arrest, trying to force him to confess that he was gay.
Activists of the IC SOS argue that Arsamikov may be charged with committing a major fraud under Article 159 of the Criminal Code, while they do not exclude the possibility of even being charged with terrorism.
At the same time, they note that many Chechens living in Europe and returning for the funeral of their relatives do not return, since they have the same fate.
The warrant for his arrest was signed by the head of the Siolkovsky District Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Chechnya, and the statement on the basis of which he was prosecuted was written in December 2021, when the Chechen was in the Netherlands. It is reported by SC SOS.
