The Board of Directors of Romanian Television approved on Thursday the creation of two new channels – TVR Sport and TVR Folklor.

According to a TVR press release cited by Agerpres, the decision was taken by 11 votes in favor and two votes against at the meeting held in Timisoara.

“Last year, we managed to morally compensate the viewers in Romania by relaunching TVR INFO and TVR Cultural. This year we will launch TVR Folklor and TVR Sport, channels dedicated to areas of significant interest to Romanians. I think we’re getting into the nature of the public media service, the timing and the mission,” SRTv president and CEO Dan Turturica was quoted as saying in a press release.

The producer and owner of a veritable treasure trove of programs dedicated to the traditions, folklore and ethnographic creativity of local communities, Romanian Television strives to make the preservation and popularization of national heritage the tasks of TVR Folklor.

For its part, TVR Sport will contribute at the national level to education for healthy and harmonious development, support for sports and Romanian athletes. It will also offer the public competitions in sports fields that do not find their place in the Romanian television market.

“In this context, also at today’s meeting, the CA started the procedures to continue broadcasting the competitions included in the UEFA YWF package, which contains the matches that will be played this year. Among the sporting events are also the U21 European Championship hosted by Romania and Georgia, as well as the U19 European Championship U19, UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2023, the U17 Women’s European Championship 2023, the U17 European Championship, the U19 European Women’s Championship and UEFA Futsal U19 EURO 2023″, says the press release.
