Major administration elections expected to be announced in February FOREVER countries with Kerameo Law, the first decision was signed yesterday declaring the process of electing external members at the University of Macedonia fruitless. The reason is the failure of the law itself, as the universities state.
In particular, on Universities of Macedonia, Thessaly and the Aegean the election to elect five external councilors out of 11 members, as defined by law 4957/2022, is “stuck” by a tie between the six internal (university professors) council members.
Thus, the rector of the University of Macedonia, Stavros Katranidis, on Monday signed a decision declaring fruitless the process of electing five external members of the administrative board of his institution and that he will proceed with the necessary actions to re-announce the appointment of the board, that is, six internal members and, after an international invitation , five external members. The question is what will fill the managerial gap, because the term of office of the current rector at the university expires at the end of February.
The law does not provide what to do in the event of a tie, and the Ministry of Education, through Secretary General of Higher Education Odysseus Zora, instructed the university itself to find a solution. This issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the Synod of Chancellors in March. However, the EKPA decided – in the event of a tie – to reschedule the election if five attempts failed.
at big universities
At the same time, electoral processes for councils at large universities are being activated, which will take place in 2023. In particular, council elections are expected in February at NTUA, University. Aristotle in Thessaloniki, the School of Fine Arts and the Universities of Athens, Western Attica and Western Macedonia. The term of office of chancellors ends at the end of the current academic year, in August of the following year.
