Fire in the eyes: only one aircraft sent

Collection of criminal omissions that led to the death of people as a result of murder fire in the eyes represents the testimony of an expert, a fire officer, Dimitriu Liotsiu, who outlined his findings in a special report, sharply blaming him for what had not been done to fight the fire. His testimony, which began yesterday at court where the case of the perpetrators sitting on the dock is considered, made a splash, since the witness, speaking with the facts and analyzing the incident, left no room for non-acknowledgement of guilt. Mr. Liotsios, who wrote an expert report on the fatal fire at the behest of the judicial authorities, also filed significant complaints, saying he was pressured not to reflect reality and hide his responsibility.

“If they had sent three planes, the fire could have been brought under control and by ordering the evacuation of settlements, they would have helped us not to mourn so many victims.”

His expert opinion, the conclusions of which were read out yesterday, before he began his testimony, concludes that even the necessary measures were not taken to extinguish the fire, since, as he stated orally, the attempt was made by only one aircraft, and the area was burning and the fire entered the houses. The witness argued that if three fire engines had been sent, the fire could certainly have been controlled and would not have had the fatal consequences it had.

“Operatively inadequate”

Mr. Liotsios said verbatim: “Assistance with only one aircraft until 18.20 is considered insufficient from an operational point of view. At 5:30 pm, fifty minutes after the fire was reported, the fire approaches and threatens the houses, with only one landing lift operating. If they had sent three aircraft, the fire could have been brought under control and by ordering the evacuation of the inhabitants of the settlements, they would have contributed to the fact that we would not mourn so many victims.

Fire in the eyes: Only one LA-1 was sentThe witness stated that despite the fact that from the previous day of the deadly fire everyone was aware of adverse weather conditions, however, the competent authority (ESKE), while Attica had a risk of 4, did not redeploy fire aircraft, as is done in these cases in airports from which they could fly. The result, he claimed, was that on the day of the fire, when the fire was also raging in Kineta, there was only one plane for Mati, and everything was done right for Kineta, even the evacuation of citizens, as a result, there were no casualties. “What did not happen that day,” Mr. Liotsios stressed, “or the previous day, was the re-parking of aircraft either in Attica or in other regions of the country. When we have a risk level of 4, our strength and readiness increase. In Attica, we had a risk level of 4. The fact that the planes were not re-parked contributed to the spread of the fire. Care should be taken to ensure timely re-parking at suitable airports, which, unfortunately, has not been done.”

Liotsiou’s testimony, which is expected to last several days, will continue next Thursday, while yesterday the courtroom was full of relatives of the dead and injured from the long-suffering region. A strange impression is made by the fact that the process takes place without heating, and the participants in the process, relatives of the victims and journalists are watching what is happening under the hoods.
