​A new earthquake, which was accompanied by three aftershocks, occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Gorge district and became the strongest in the last five years. An earthquake with a revised magnitude of 5.7 was also felt in Bucharest.

The earthquake was recorded at 3:16 p.m., and the INFP initially announced that the earthquake occurred in Vilca County at a depth of 28 kilometers. The INFP later announced that the 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Gorge County at a depth of 40 kilometers.

The earthquake occurred 102 km northwest of Craiova, 120 km southwest of Sibiu, 146 km west of Pitesti, 161 km southeast of Timisoara, 183 km southeast of Arad, 195 km south of Cluj-Napoca , 204 km east of Belgrade, 208 km east. Zemun, 212 km northeast of Niš, 212 km west of Brasov.

In addition, Gorge County was hit by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake on Monday, followed by four aftershocks at a depth of just 13.2 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in several counties such as Timis, Arad, Sibiu, Dolj, as well as in Serbia and Bulgaria.

The earthquake on Tuesday became the strongest in the last five years. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale occurred in October 2018 in Buzeu County.
