​The earthquake that occurred a week ago in Turkey has become another victim in the world of sports. The Suceava University Sports Club reported that Cemal Kütahya, a former team player and captain of the Turkish national handball team, was found dead under the rubble of his home.

According to his manager, the bodies of a little boy and Jemal’s wife, who was 5 months pregnant, were also found, the club reported.

“Today, the lifeless body of our former player Jemal Kutahya was found. It was under rubble after the earthquake that occurred a week ago in Turkey. According to his manager, the bodies of a little boy and Jemal’s wife, who was 5 months pregnant, were also found,” writes CSU Suceava in the post, clarifying that the athlete’s death was also confirmed by the Handball Federation of Turkey.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of our dear Jemal Kyutahya, the captain of our national men’s handball team, and his son Chinar Kyutahya, who were left under the rubble of the house where they lived in Antakya. Our condolences! We will do everything in our power to honor the name of Jemal Kutahya, who successfully represented our country at the highest level for years. Thank you, Jemal, for everything you have done for our country. We will not forget you” – Handball Federation of Turkey.

32-year-old Cemal Kutahya has been registered with CSU Suceava for the 2021-2022 season.

“After leaving our team, the right midfielder returned to his homeland, to the Hatay group, which occupies the first place in the Turkish Super League. It is a great honor for us to meet you. Rest in peace”, it also says CSU Suceava.
