Two US officials, who wished to remain anonymous, told Reuters that the military shot down the flying object. But they declined to say whether it was similar to the giant white Chinese balloon that was shot down last weekend.

Separately, Michigan Congressman Jack Bergman wrote on Twitter that the facility had been “decommissioned” over Lake Huron.

And his colleague Alyssa Slotkin, a representative from the Democratic Party of the state of Michigan, wrote on Twitter that the object “was shot down by pilots of the US Air Force and the National Guard.”

Earlier, the US closed the airspace over Lake Michigan for “national defense” reasons.

Previously, the airspace over Lake Michigan in the northern US was temporarily closed on Sunday for “national defense” reasons, according to the US Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority.

“The FAA has briefly closed a portion of the airspace over Lake Michigan to support US Department of Defense operations. The airspace is open again,” the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement, as quoted by AFP.

The FAA’s announcement comes after three flying objects were shot down over the United States and Canada within a week, including what Washington called a Chinese spy balloon.

The Pentagon has not yet released any response.

Also on Saturday, the airspace over the US state of Montana was temporarily closed, but a fighter jet sent to investigate a “radar anomaly” did not detect any flying “object”, the US military said.

News agencies reported on Sunday that China is also preparing to shoot down an unidentified object in its airspace, and Canada is conducting a ground search for a cylindrical flying object shot down by US air. power.

As reported by the Chinese publication Global Times, a mysterious flying object was spotted near the coast of the city of Zhizhao in Shandong province, located between the cities of Beijing and Shanghai. Fishermen in the area were warned to be careful.

It comes after the United States shot down a Chinese balloon a week ago, which Washington says was being used by China for espionage, while Beijing says it was a weather balloon that went off course due to wind.
