EMAK rescuers will take off from Adana, Turkey on two flights, one civilian and one C-130, and are expected to arrive in Athens this evening. The civilian aircraft will deliver the mission personnel, while the military aircraft will deliver the equipment and vehicles.
In total, 36 rescuers from the 1st and 2nd EMAK (21 from the 1st and 15 from the 2nd EMAK), two fire department engineers with experience in rescuing collapsed buildings, 8 doctors and rescuers took part in the operation. from EKAV, three rescue dogs and three special rescue vehicles, as well as OASP President Prof. Efthimios Lekkas.
The Hellenic Mission arrived in Adana, Turkey in the early hours of Tuesday, February 7, and after a painstaking search and effort, managed to save 5 people alive and bring back 5 more unconscious people.
As it became known from the fire department, the rescue cycle of the mission was completed and, on the recommendation of its head, the coordination center for rescuers of EMAK, established in the area, was given the go-ahead to leave the scene. At present, the rescue operations have moved to the fifth and final stage of “Full-scale search and recovery in the field”, according to special protocols. At this stage, the work of rescuers is gradually completed and from now on they capture the ruins of buildings with earthmoving machines.
