He is only 18 years old, but he will represent Romania at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool in May. The song with which he won the national selection, called “DGT (Off and on)”, is written half in Romanian, half in English and, according to the singer, “illuminates a very relevant issue” for everyone.

• Teodor Andrey created more than 100 songs. In 2022, he won the Myosotis Award for the best song by the author-performer, for the song “Artist” (music and lyrics by Teodor Andrei) from the album “FRAGIL”. He also holds the Mihaela Runceanu 2022 Grand Trophy and the Alexandria Pop Fest 2022 Grand Trophy, TVR reports.

“I try to be close to people. I think if we do that pasting it’s between people and artists, a closer relationship with the listener, you let them see you exactly as you are. People are looking for people, people appreciate music as much as music appreciates them. It is much easier for me to appreciate a person when they are vulnerable, in the spotlight and successful. People are art. I really believe in this business, where the artist is close to people. I feel a lot more honest with myself, and I’m with them,” said Teodor Andrei on TVR 1 before the final on Saturday night.

“The play itself is very serious, and I take it seriously. It sheds light on a very important issue that everyone faces if you stop to analyze the message,” said the soloist.

Who is Teodor Andrey?

According to his own description on his YouTube channel, Teodor Andrej (born October 9, 2004 in Bucharest, Romania) is a Romanian recording artist, actor and composer. Teodor was a Bootcamp contestant on X Factor Romania (season 9 – 2020) and a semi-finalist in the first season of Vocea Romaniai Junior (2017).

He acted in the first magazine show produced by young people in Romania – Nepotii lui Tănase magazine, at Constantin Tănase Magazine Theater in Bucharest (December 2018 – June 2019).

Theodore received numerous awards and honors at national and international festivals, including the 3rd prize at the “Aurelian Andreescu” festival, the 1st prize at the “Alexandria Pop Fest” festival, the “Best Stage Performance” prize at the “Silver Yantra” festival in Bulgaria and the 3rd prize at the “Florin Bogardo” festival.

In total, more than 36,500 votes were cast by telephone and online at the national selection on February 11, 2023.

This year, the public vote was the only decisive criterion in the national selection, as a specialized jury was not involved to assign points to the works that made it to the finals.

Of the total number of votes, Teodor Andrey’s song received a little more than 5,200 votes, being the first in the top.
