An explosion occurred on the Zatoka bridge in the south of Ukraine near Odesa, on the most important road leading to the Republic of Moldova and Romania, most likely after an attack by a surface marine drone.

The images that appeared on social networks show how the object approaches the water surface of the bridge at night and explodes when it reaches the deck. According to the first information, the damage would not be very large.

Last year, Russia also attacked the Zatoka bridge without destroying it completely, but then used guided missiles.

Now, according to analyst H. I. Sutton, the attack would be carried out using a ground-based kamikaze drone similar to the ones Ukraine used last year to attack the port of Sevastopol.

“This is a serious new development, Russia did not have these types of drones or think in these terms. Even if the attack caused limited damage (reportedly), this is a serious new threat to Ukraine,” says Sutton.

He also mentions the tense situation in Ukraine regarding the topic of surface marine drones.

Ukraine reportedly used the Internet provided by Starlink satellites, but Elon Musk’s company took steps to prevent the Ukrainian military from using Starlink’s Internet service to control drones.

The use of drones through Starlink went beyond the scope of the agreement between SpaceX and the Ukrainian government, the company’s president said.
