Written submissions from the State Legal Council to the administrative courts in which the claims of the relatives of the victims are considered deadly fire in Mati, seeking reparations dominated yesterday’s vaunted trial to prosecute hundreds of deaths and dozens of burn victims.

President of the Freedom Sailing Party, Zoe Constantinopoulouinterrogated as a witness, described the position of the State Legal Council in administrative proceedings as “shameful” and stated that the Judicial Council is trying to evade payment of compensation, to lay 95% of the blame on the long-suffering residents of the region.

Ms. Konstantinopoulou’s sharp criticism of the position of the State Legal Council prompted the intervention of lawyer Varvara Vukaki-Fitrou, who is mourning the loss of her two children and her husband. Lawyer Vassilis Capernaros branded as unprecedented the position expressed in writing, he said, by the State Council on Legal Affairs regarding the inability to cope with the deadly fire.

As mentioned by Mr. Kapernaros, the legal advisers of the State, who took over cases on behalf of the Greek State regarding the claims of the relatives of the victims for compensation, argued, among other things, that the fire plane was unable to help put out the fire because there was a storm at sea and they couldn’t get water.

Mr. Capernaros emphasized that “these shameful things are part of an attempt to hide responsibility” and added that “these are fabrications after the fact.” He even noted that the Greek state should have reached a compromise with the relatives of the victims and paid compensation, stressing that “the same machine that pursued them is now dragging them to court as guilty.”

During her testimony, Zoe Constantinopoulou denied responsibility, sharply criticizing the government at the time for the way it handled the fire, and immediately afterwards, speaking of a “doctorate in covering up responsibility”.

Ms. Constantinopooulou, who concluded her multi-day testimony yesterday, emphasized, among other things, in response to questions from defense lawyers, that “there was no readiness of ground and air means and no answer to their responsibility.” , because, according to her, the weather data was known for the previous day. “They did not give them,” the witness claimed, “even the opportunity to escape. We didn’t even give them twenty minutes to keep them from burning. Absence, indifference and criminal omission were huge, and looking back, they are trying in a thousand ways to save themselves.
