Moldova: Authorities detect Russian ‘destabilizing’ activities

His intelligence services Moldova announced the identification of “destabilizing” activities after the statements of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky who claimed to have stopped Russia’s plan for the former Soviet republic.

“Based on the information provided by our Ukrainian partner and internal evidence, we confirm that we have identified activities aimed at weakening and destabilizing Moldova,” the SIS said in a statement.

“We are unable to provide more details at this time due to the risk of compromising ongoing efforts to establish what happened,” they added.

“Our services are working to guarantee the security of the country and use all the information of our partners to prevent and stop such attempts,” the pro-European president reacted for her part. Maya Sandu.

During his visit to Brussels, the head of the Ukrainian state stated that he “prevented the plan to destroy Moldova, a plan that was in the hands of the Russian special services.”

“This plan shows who, when and how will deal a mortal blow to Moldovan democracy,” Zelensky said. “Well, I don’t know if Moscow actually ordered the implementation of this plan, but in any case (…) this plan is very similar to what they tried to implement against Ukraine.”

Moldova, a small country of 2.6 million neighboring Ukraine and a candidate for EU membership since late June, is under military threat from Russia due to the presence of Russian soldiers on its soil in the pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria.

Maia Sandu recently accused Russia of being involved in weapons, goods, human trafficking, or funding anti-government protests.
