Google has just introduced some new features for the app Google maps : in addition to immersive viewing using artificial intelligence to help you navigate the busiest streets of big cities, new features are aimed at electric car users.
Indeed, for several years the American giant has established partnerships with car manufacturers such as Renault, Volvo or Honda to implement its operating system Android Automotive OS (“Google built in”) in the infotainment system of their cars. In this way, users find the entire Google ecosystem in their car with Google’s voice assistant or applications such as Google Maps available directly on board.
Google Maps: route planner for electric cars
Therefore, these new features apply to users of vehicles with built-in Google Maps, or more specifically, electric vehicles. The mapping app now lets you add a charging break for shorter trips.
Really, for any trip a break to recharge the battery of your electric vehicle, Google Maps will now suggest you the best stop based on various parameters such as traffic, battery level or estimated energy consumption.
Thus, users of electric cars no longer need to worry about the battery charge level, and the fear of “drying” batteries will remain in the distant memory. The user can always choose another charging station if the stop suggested by the application does not suit him.
Google Maps: better identify charging stations
Google Maps built into electric cars now offers new features more information about charging stations : for example, the new “ultra-fast charging” filter allows you to identify stations that offer significant charging capacity to charge the most greedy EVs.
By activating ultra fast charging filter.the program will redirect the user to charging stations equipped with power terminals 150 kW or more. Thus, electric vehicles compatible with ultra-fast charging will be able to refuel in just a few minutes (often 30 to 40 minutes).
Google Maps search results now also indicate whether places you want to visit, such as a mall or supermarket, have charging station. If you have shopping planned or just go shopping, this will allow you to choose a destination that offers charging options and therefore optimize the time spent there.
