Yesterday, the ND deputy breathed his last. Manousos Volodakis at the age of 57 as he recently faced a major health issue. Manousos Volodakis, father of three, was an active ND member elected in Chania. He studied Economics at the University of Athens and holds an MA in Political Economy from the University of Essex in England, and worked as an economist before entering politics. First elected MP for Chania with N.D. in 2007 and was re-elected in the double elections of 2012, as well as in July 2019. In the period 2005-2006. served as Secretary General for Trade at the Ministry of Development, and in January 2010 took over as Secretary of New Technologies, Research and Innovation N.D., from which he resigned in December 2011 to participate in the next parliamentary elections. In June 2012, he took up the position of Deputy Minister of Administrative Reform and E-Government.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated, among other things, that “words are not enough to describe my grief at the loss of Manousos Voloudakis, my good friend and partner, as well as my beloved compatriot and staunch ally in the New Democracy”, adding that “Manousos leaves the imprint of quality throughout his journey. As a member of parliament, as an economist, as a citizen of Chania. And public life owes him a lot, because as Deputy Minister of Administrative Reform, he courageously fought against the bureaucracy.

Statements were made by both former Prime Ministers Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras. Mr. Karamanlis stated that he was saying goodbye with deep sadness to “a moral politician who sees his place and his special homeland, a worthy young man who has much to offer”, while Mr. Samaras stated that “the politician lost Manousos Volodaki plunges everyone into immense sadness”, characterizing him as a wonderful, noble, civilized, qualified and presentable person.
