here in numbers at the last Paris Motor Showwhich took place in Paris last October, a young brand VinFast scored points on the Old Continent. The cars of the group, still little known to us, benefited from extensive coverage, even though many of the usual cult manufacturers were absent from the meeting. A Vietnamese group was also present at CES 2023 from Las Vegas earlier this year. The brand also formalized its characteristics two future electric SUVs VF6 and VF7. But the firm seems to be facing difficulties.
VinFast is laying off half of its employees in the US
The new manufacturer, a subsidiary of the Vingroup JSC conglomerate, is now feeling increased pressure on the American market. After the unplanned postponement of the European market launch of the new electric models VF8 and VF9, reduction of jobs are now threatening the United States.
The company should separate from 80 employees among approximately 150 Vinfast employees in the United States. The company said in this regard that it aims to ” arrange operations in North America and will work with third parties to ” improve the quality and speed of customer service“. In addition, plans to lay off up to 30% of employees are spreading at Vinfast’s headquarters in Hanoi. However, the company categorically denies this information.
No orders have been fulfilled since November
These layoffs are announced even earlier first deliveries of cars in the USA The company did ship the first batch 999 cars for its US customers last November. But customers keep waiting. According to the Reuters news agency, the cars are still stuck at a port on the US west coast while the company works on a software update. However, the situation should be unblocked during February.

VinFast is in a delicate position for export
The group’s current and only factory is located southeast of Hanoi on Cat Hai Island in Vietnam. But this location, far from the target markets, is the main disadvantage. Vinfast definitely wants to build its own car factory North Carolina but construction has not yet started. The company is awaiting regulatory approval to begin the $4 billion project.
Faced with competition, the delay becomes more and more serious. Tesla, for example, who recently made a very significant price reduction, continues to review the effect of the announcement. The Californian firm is also looking to take advantage of new revalued tax breaks (up to $7,500) in the US for electric cars.
And obviously, VinFast vehicles are not eligible for these aids because they are not manufactured in North America. Be that as it may, the Vietnamese manufacturer’s ambitions seem to have weakened, as it still wants to sell 750,000 cars worldwide within three years…
