Akim Apachev, a close associate of Mangushev, said that the mercenary fell into a coma, and then died, having no chance of being shot in the head.

Apachev also added that on Tuesday the case was transferred to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and, according to him, “everything is clear in the materials” and it is clear who committed the crime.

Russian channels reported that at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Mangushev was taken to the neurosurgery center in Kadiivka, Luhansk region, with a “bullet wound to the head.”

Russian propagandists write that the shooting was carried out with a short-barreled weapon in the occipital-parietal region, but the circumstances under which it happened are unknown.

On Sunday, Mangushev’s wife Tetyana Azarevich said that the Russian mercenary could have been the victim of an assassination attempt or even execution.

A Russian mercenary shot with a skull in his hand

Igor Mangushev, one of the most famous Russian mercenaries, was filmed during a speech at an event with the skull of a Ukrainian serviceman who died near the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.

“We are alive, but he is already dead. Let him burn in hell. He was unlucky,” Mangushev said.

“We are not fighting against people of flesh and blood, but against an idea. The idea of an anti-Russian Ukrainian state. There can be no peace. We must de-Ukrainize Ukraine, we must return our Russian lands,” said the mercenary.

“We are not at war with the people, but with the idea. This is the tragedy of Ukrainian soldiers, we don’t care how many of them we kill. If we were at war with the people, we could make peace, but we are at war with an idea, and everyone who carries this idea must die,” said the Russian mercenary.

When asked if this skull did not belong to any of the killed civilians, Mangushev replied that it did not. “He is definitely not a civilian, we killed him ourselves.”

“Did he understand what “Russian Peace” is?” someone from the hall asks laughing.

“I think so,” replied Mangushev with a smile.
