A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Russia’s southern Rostov region near the border with Ukraine on Wednesday and was later extinguished, state media reported, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
“In the Rostov region, the city of Novoshakhtynsk… at 10:24 Moscow time, a report was received about a fire on the territory of an oil processing plant,” the agency reported.
The fire broke out on an area of about 100 square meters and was extinguished after about an hour, the Interfax news agency reported, adding that the small oil refinery belonged to Resource LLC.
According to preliminary information, the fire occurred due to “violation of the technological process”.
Novoshakhtinsk is located approximately 9 km from the border with Ukraine. Another oil refinery in Novoshakhtinsk was shot down by two drones last June during what authorities called “terrorist actions on the western border,” referring to Ukraine.
Wednesday’s fire was the second in two days at a Russian oil refinery, following an incident on Tuesday at Lukoil’s plant in Nizhny Novgorod, east of Moscow.
