Former London Police Officer was sentenced today to at least 30 years in prison for a “series of violent sexual assaults” on women.

OUR David Carrickwho worked for the Office of Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection, used his position of power to intimidate many of his victims by telling them that no one would believe them because it was their word against the word of an acting officer, prosecutors said.

48 year old Carrick previously pleaded guilty to 49 charges related to 12 victims between 2003 and 2020.the fact that made him one of the worst sex offenders in British history.

Carrick’s crimes, including; 24 rapeswere committed while he was with the Metropolitan Police, further adding to the pressure on the largest police force in Britannia, which has already been affected by a series of scandals in recent years. The case exacerbated the crisis of confidence that gripped Scotland Yard following the case of Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old Londoner who was abducted, raped and murdered in 2021 by a Metropolitan Police officer.

Carrick appeared in court today. London where he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of 32 years minus time already served. Those sentenced to life imprisonment must serve the minimum sentence and are released only if they are no longer considered a danger to society.

British Home Secretary Swella Braverman called Carrick’s crimes “an indelible trauma” for the police. “It is very important to find out how he could wear the uniform for so long,” he said.

Carrick came to the attention of authorities in connection with nine incidents, including allegations of harassment, assault and rape, between 2000 and October 2021, when he was first charged. The London Police, which sacked Carrick from their ranks last month, had previously apologized for not noticing the pattern of abuse and assault he followed earlier.

Prosecutor Tom Little told the court yesterday that some of the 49 charges involved multiple incidents and that Carrick confessed to ‘at least 71 cases of serious sexual assault’. Some of his victims filed written statements with the court in which I stated that they no longer trusted the police.

Carrick’s lawyer, Alistair Williamson, told the court that his client “accepts full responsibility for what he did.”
