Her Foreign Minister Syria Faisal Mekdad asked European countries to send aid to his country after they deadly earthquakesstating that the sanctions imposed on Damascus are no excuse for not doing so.
Mekdad made this statement in an interview with the Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen TV.
Syrian officials have long said Western sanctions are hindering reconstruction efforts in areas that have calmed down after 12 years of war. The US and EU say the sanctions are aimed at putting pressure on the Syrian government to advance a political process that could end the war.
