The migrants were on an inflatable boat that crashed into the rocks, with about 41 people on board, they said.

None of the rescued were wearing life jackets at the time of their discovery, according to the Coast Guard.

The weather conditions prevailing in the area are unfavorable, with a northeast wind of force 6 on the Beaufort scale.

The rescue operation is coordinated by ECSC and includes a high seas ship, two Coast Guard ships and a Super Puma helicopter. The search for survivors is also being conducted from the shore.
