
Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (12 WTA) managed an exciting qualification to the round of 16 of the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Ostapenko won over Daniela Collins
The former Roland Garros 2017 winner defeated American Daniella Collins 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 after two hours and 19 minutes of play.
Ostapenko, seeded fifth, will play in the round of 16 with the winner Qinwn Zheng (29 WTA) and Rebecca Marino (74 WTA).
Also on Monday, Gabriela Rousse (144 WTA) qualified for the main draw in Abu Dhabi, while Sorana Kirstea (63 WTA) was eliminated by Marta Kostiuk (57 WTA) after 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open takes place from February 6 to 12 on hard, is in the WTA 500 category, has a total prize money of $780,637, and the main favorite is Daria Kasatkina.
