COMEDY (2023)
Creator: Emma Moran
InterpretationsCast: Mairead Tyers, Sophia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna
The Disney+ platform brings us another great series from the Hulu network, this time with comedy content. 25-year-old Jen is trying to find not only a job that suits her, but also true love. However, her biggest problem is that in a world where everyone gets superpowers at 18, she stubbornly remains… normal. Desperate for a situation that makes her feel like an outcast, she will try to do anything to “awaken” her own power with the help of some good (but unrequited) friends.
The British series of eight half-hour episodes is utterly contemporary, primarily poking fun at the superhero subgenre itself, which has been known to make a splash on the small and big screen in recent years. This time the rules are reversed, in an alternate reality where everyone has superpowers, some of them amusingly weird or even disturbing. Overall, the humor here is quite bold, creative, and “meta”, at times reminiscent of Netflix’s highly successful “Sex Education”, and the themes are taken from the everyday life and entertainment experienced by a young woman in 2023. .

BIOGRAPHY (2021)
Directed by Marie Kreuzer
InterpretationsCast: Vicki Cripps, Colin Morgan
From the Cinobo platform, we choose the sensational film by Maria Kreuzer, which we saw relatively recently in cinemas. The story of the legendary Empress Sisi takes on an alternative, feminist dimension in an interesting biography starring the excellent Vicki Cripps. Having just celebrated her 40th birthday, Sisi becomes increasingly obsessed with her looks. She subjects herself to a strict diet, diligently sports and tightens her already suffocating corset more and more every day. Of course, this all stems from the social demand that she remain the perfect, young empress that everyone knows and loves. However, the woman behind the image is drowning and will soon be looking for a way to salvation. Kreutzer’s film feels more like a thriller than a typical historical biography, and that’s to its advantage, even as its lack of pacing weakens an otherwise high-quality ensemble. Of course, what stands out here is Cripps’ superb performance, which shifts from neurotic to apathetic with ease, essentially creating a sissy that never existed, but perfectly serving the intentions of this myth.
