
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak today had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he assured that efforts were being made from London to ensure that British military assistance reached the Ukrainian front line as soon as possible.
Sunak and Zelensky emphasized how important it is at this stage to accelerate the pace of international assistance to Ukraine.
“The Prime Minister said he is focused on ensuring that British defense equipment gets to the front lines as quickly as possible,” Sunak’s office said in a statement.
“Both leaders agreed that it is vital that international partners increase their assistance to Ukraine to help seize the opportunity and push back Russian forces,” the British statement said.
Zelenskiy, for his part, said he discussed “further empowerment” of the Ukrainian military in a conversation with the British prime minister today.
He also said that he thanked Sunak for starting the training of Ukrainian crews on tanks. Challenger 2the delivery of which to Ukraine was announced by the UK in January.
