“What did we actually agree on today?” Zelenskyy noted this in his traditional daily video address after the Ukraine-EU summit held on Friday in Kyiv.

“There is an understanding that this year it is possible to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union,” he explained. “Today we can say that Ukraine is moving towards its goal.”

“We discussed and are already discussing as members of the European community,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.

In Kyiv, where air raid sirens sounded twice during the day, European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other high-ranking EU officials met at the Zelenskyi summit.

“Ukraine is the EU, the EU is Ukraine,” said Charles Michel after the summit, which did not define a clear timetable for Ukraine’s accession.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday that there are no hard deadlines for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and that there are goals that Kyiv must achieve in its accession efforts.
