Created by Euro NCAP, Green NCAP is an independent European organization that assesses the energy and environmental performance of cars sold in Europe, as well as their emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants.
In its latest series of tests, Green NCAP focused on four new cars : Volkswagen Touran, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Opel Mokka and Kia Picanto. These four models are equipped with thermal engines, gasoline and diesel, and have received different ratings, from two to three stars, regarding the level of exhaust gas emissions and energy efficiency indicators.
Volkswagen Touran: 2 stars in Green NCAP tests
there Volkswagen Touranequipped with a 1.5 TSI gasoline engine, was rated 2 stars Green NCAP tests with overall rating 3.8/10. In detail, it scores 5.6/10 on the Air Quality Index, 3.9/10 on the Energy Efficiency Index, and 2.1/10 on the Greenhouse Gas Index.
Green NCAP explains that the shape and mass of the car’s body leads to more aerodynamic drag, which increases fuel consumption. Also, better particulate and ammonia control would definitely help the car score more points.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: 2.5 stars in Green NCAP tests
THE BMW 2 Series Active Tourerequipped with a 220i gasoline engine, scored 2.5 stars Green NCAP tests with overall rating 4.9/10. In detail, it scores 6.2/10 on the Air Quality Index, 5.0/10 on the Energy Efficiency Index, and 3.6/10 on the Greenhouse Gas Index.
Green NCAP clarifies that the model has reliable aftertreatment of exhaust gases, but ammonia production is increased. In addition, if the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has generally good consumption figures, further reductions in consumption will lead to lower CO emissions.2.
Opel Mokka: 3 stars in Green NCAP tests
IVauxhall Mokkaequipped with a diesel gasoline engine 1.5, received a score 3 stars Green NCAP tests with overall rating 5.7/10. In detail, it scores 6.5/10 on the Air Quality Index, 5.8/10 on the Energy Efficiency Index, and 4.8/10 on the Greenhouse Gas Index.
Green NCAP clarifies that this diesel engine appears to be a very good choice with acceptable fuel consumption values, but also performs well in terms of air quality thanks to the minimization of pollutants through the control of particulate emissions.
Kia Picanto: 3 stars in Green NCAP tests
there Kia Picantoequipped with a 1.0 petrol engine, gets a point 3 stars Green NCAP tests with overall rating 5.1/10. Specifically, it scores 5.3/10 on the Air Quality Index, 5.7/10 on the Energy Efficiency Index, and 4.3/10 on the Greenhouse Gas Index.
Green NCAP clarifies that this engine is a suitable choice for easy movement around cities and towns with good fuel consumption values. However, fuel consumption figures could be improved to further reduce CO emissions2 and increase your final grade.
