General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the de facto leader of Sudan since the 2021 coup, today welcomed Eli Cohen to Khartoum. This is the first ever official visit by an Israeli foreign minister to the country.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry spoke about the “historic trip”.
According to Burhan’s Supreme Council of Sudan, the two men discussed “means of establishing a mutually beneficial relationship” and “possible plans for cooperation” in areas ranging from security to agriculture, energy, health, water and education.
In January 2021, Khartoum announced that it was joining the so-called “Abraham Accords” under which Arab countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco recognized Israel.
