The European Parliament on Thursday urged European governments to pass the 10th round of sanctions against Russia as soon as possible and to ban companies still in the EU, such as Lukoil and Rosatom, from operating in the European market.

In addition, according to a resolution adopted on Thursday at a special session of the European Parliament, the day before the EU summit. – Ukraine, in Kyiv, the governments of the member countries are asking the deputies of the European Parliament to refuse not only to import oil and natural gas, but also uranium from Russia.

“The European Parliament calls on the EU countries to adopt the 10th package of sanctions against Russia as soon as possible and to actively propose new sanctions against new sectors and individuals,” reads the resolution, which was adopted by 489 votes to 36 with 49 abstentions.

“The list of sanctions should be expanded to include Russian companies still operating in the European market, such as Lukoil and Rosatom. The European Parliament also calls for “a complete and immediate embargo on Russian imports of fossil fuels, including oil and uranium.”

In addition, MEPs call on EU member states. increase and accelerate its military assistance to Kyiv, especially the supply of weapons, as well as substantial political, economic, technical and humanitarian support.

They are also asking leaders at the upcoming EU-Ukraine session to prioritize a comprehensive recovery package for Ukraine. This package should focus on relief, reconstruction and recovery in the short, medium and long term. This support will contribute to further economic growth in post-war Ukraine, the resolution says.

Assessing Ukraine’s needs for reconstruction, the resolution also reiterates the European Parliament’s call to use the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank, as well as the assets of Russian oligarchs, to finance Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
