Volvo: six new electric models to be released by 2026 News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Volvo is one of the most advanced manufacturers when it comes to electrification. Its model range currently includes several 100% electric models, and a few weeks ago the manufacturer unveiled its new flagship: the new Volvo EX90, a 100% electric high-end SUV designed to replace the XC90.

But the Swedish manufacturer has no intention of stopping there. Indeed, according to Reuters, By 2026, Volvo plans to release six electric models to pave the way for 2030 when Volvo will introduce only new electric models.

So the first model we mentioned above is the EX90. Despite the fact that its presentation has already taken place, this model will not arrive until the second half of 2023. The second model will follow this year with the launch of the EX30, a compact SUV smaller than the XC40. So, two electric SUVs, but the future of the Swedish manufacturer will also be highlighted by the appearance of new sedans.

Volvo is still betting on the sedan segment

Volvo intends to introduce an electric version for every model in the current range. After the presentation of the models just mentioned (to which you can also add the XC40 and C40 Recharge), electric versions of the XC60 SUV and the S60 and S90 sedans should soon appear.

Even if the Reuters journalists do not directly mention the Volvo V60 and V90, 100% electric wagons should also be included, especially since the Scandinavian manufacturer has built its reputation on this body. More surprisingly, Volvo is also reportedly planning some kind of large electric minivanbut this one will be aimed at the Chinese market.

An electric minivan for China?

According to journalists from the Chinese publication Car News China, the Volvo minivan will be derived from the Zeekr 009, another brand of the Chinese Geely group, to which Volvo belongs. Thus, the minivan will be based on the SEA platform, will have four-wheel drive and two electric motors with a total capacity of 536 hp.

The technical underpinnings of both models should be the same, but the Volvo-branded version should adhere to the brand’s aesthetic codes. The manufacturer has not yet confirmed this information, even if in China Volvo seems to be preparing for some changes.

Indeed, the company increased its Chinese staff responsible for car design from 20 to 60 and moved to a larger building in Shanghai.
