Simona Halep is temporarily suspended from tennis due to a positive test for Roxadustat (conducted during the US Open 2022).

Chris Evert, “hypocrite” – double standards in the cases of Sharapova and Simona Halep doping

“I’m thinking about Simona Halep, I hope that everything is okay with her… And I hope that everything will be resolved soon…”, this message of Chris Evert provoked the fans of Maria Sharapova.

Despite the fact that Masha has retired from professional sports for several years, she continues to have a large group of fans around the world.

Many of those who still sympathize with the Russians disagreed with the message of the legendary Chris Evert.

Masha’s fans say Evert is hypocritical and didn’t show such support when Sharapova tested positive for meldonium in 2016.

The Russian’s supporters even disputed Evert’s statement, made immediately after Sharapova announced that she had failed a doping test.

“There is always suspicion when you actually hear what the drug is used for (not meldonium). That is why her defense must show medical documentation and the dosage used.

If everything is clean, then I would say that a suspension for the rest of the year will be enough for her,” Evert said, among other things, seven years ago.

Instead, Kris Evert expressed her support when it came to the doping case involving Simona Halep.

These double standards forced fans of the Russian to attack Evert on social networks.

“Don’t worry, you didn’t treat Maria the same way. You indirectly accused her of lying. Now (not in the case of Simona Halep), don’t be a hypocrite,” says one of the fans of the Russian.

“So your position is that she’s innocent until proven guilty (without Simona Halep), but where was that attitude when Sharapova found herself in the same situation in 2016? Then everyone sang a different chorus,” concluded another fan of Sharapova.

Who is Chris Evert?

Simona’s case will be heard by Sports Resolution, an independent court in London that hears doping cases in white sport.

However, if innocence cannot be proven, Simone has one more appeal: the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.

It will be recalled that the maximum suspension that Halep could receive is 4 years.
