Frontal conflict against the background of EL.AS.

The violent political confrontation continues to be fueled by revelations of relations between organized crime figures and police officers. Government spokesman Yiannis Oikonomou yesterday left open all possibilities for the government leadership to appeal on this issue, stressing that “EL.AS. it should show better results, and I think we all demand faster results.”

At the same time, SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras called on Citizens Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos to resign, stressing that he thought it was “the least he could do for reasons of integrity and dignity.” In response, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that “cleansing the police is a practical priority for us”, while noting that during the period of SYRIZA’s rule, 183 killings of civilians remained unsolved.

“He must show a better job,” said G. Oikonomu – Theodorikakos’ resignation was requested by the President SYRIZA – Minister’s response.

On the SYRIZA side, they accuse the government of putting the investigation into the actions of the sworn officers of EL.AS on the back burner. and the “Greek Mafia” scheme. Additional tension in the political confrontation was introduced yesterday by the acquittal of the Triple Court for Administrative Offenses by a majority or unanimously against all the defendants in the “Greek mafia” case. The decision concerns charges of misdemeanors, since the defendants were prosecuted for committing serious crimes in another trial.

In a statement, SYRIZA spoke of a decision that “didn’t come out of the blue” and the delays and obstacles that tied the hands of Justice. “For 3.5 years EL.AS. he did not turn EMP newsletters into investigation sheets in the case file,” the official opposition party says.

PASOK accused the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection, which in a statement attributed to it “a politically inexplicable attitude towards the non-disclosure of all organized chain routes and high-profile individuals who, through their specific role, contributed to the creation of a long-standing criminal organization within the state.”
