According to law firm AG Immigration, the former right-wing president left Brazil for Florida two days before Lula’s Jan. 1 inauguration, and his current visa is about to expire.

“We look forward to maximum satisfaction and desired results for our client,” the firm said in a statement.

Bolsonaro would have entered the US on a visa issued for visiting leaders, which expires on Tuesday, as he is no longer on an official mission.

The former Brazilian president told CNN in Brazil that he intends to return at the end of January and is even considering delaying his return due to health issues.

Jair Bolsonaro was the victim of a knife attack in 2018 during a campaign trip. Since then, he has undergone several operations for intestinal obstruction.

On January 8, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters, unhappy with Lula da Silva’s victory over the far-right ex-president in the October 2022 presidential election, invaded and destroyed the presidential palace, Congress and the Supreme Court in Brasilia.

Anderson Torres, Bolsonaro’s former justice minister, was arrested on January 14 as part of an investigation into the crash while returning from the US.
