Why was the event called “We remain Europe” criticized? Is it because we are against a dialogue on major issues of the country? No. Dozens of political events are held daily on dozens of issues of public life that are critical and supportive of the government or opposition.
Is it because we are against pluralism in the panel of speakers? No. What is the polyphony? All those invited to speak share a common opinion on the specific theme of the event, namely “wiretapping, rights and the rule of law”. All without exception signed the text of the 16 constitutionalists.
Do any of us have a proprietary perception of the 2015 Stay European movement and don’t want anyone else to catch it in our mouths? No. Who can claim ownership of a movement that was created spontaneously and without attention by thousands of people, people who showed vigilance and had the maturity, sense of duty and patriotism to stand up for democracy and the country, without mobilization campaigns, without exchanges and at a high cost of personnel ; None of them claimed ownership then, they didn’t claim later, and now we’re being told that today some people are claiming because six people want to talk about wiretapping? The citizens of “We live in Europe” were and remain too responsible and worthy to redeem principles and duties by dealing with petty property and petty interests.
The constitution, rights, democracy and Europe are nothing more than political instruments for them. No respect, just manipulation.
Are we really dogmatists, Manichaeans and fanatics who want to set people against each other so that we have only opponents? Aren’t we glad that others also want to become Europeanists, to join what We Remain European stood for? We are not dogmatic. After all, we are, among other things, against SYRIZA. Because from 2008 to the present day we have been witnessing his equally irresponsible, reckless and dangerous policy, which does not hesitate to use any means, even unfair ones, to achieve its goals, regardless of the consequences for the country and its people. And we are too experienced to succumb to hypocritical and pretentious confessions of faith in democracy, the Constitution and Europe.
Do we want to treat our relations with Europe as a matter of business and not as a permanent requirement? Are we really so obsessed that we don’t see that things are developing, that we need to constantly reaffirm our Europeanness? No. We are not blind, naive or ignorant enough to accept the elementary lessons of European culture. We are very suspicious. Because we see a growing attempt to equate the dramatic moments that the politics of SYRIZA led us to in the summer of 2015 with the problems faced by old, and even more so, modern democracies. PASOK, SYRIZA, ND deal with problematic wiretaps, they take place in Spain, USA, EU. However, we have and are developing as a society the means to deal with this problem. So that’s one thing, but trying to present a country as a junta and asking, based on that assessment, whether it belongs to Europe is another. We are told that you wanted Europe then, but maybe you don’t do it for Europe today?
It broke the title of the event: An attempt to jokingly equate the existential danger of the country in 2015 with the current problems of modern democracies (with which we have the institutions to deal with), in order to wash SYRIZA from the spirit of its anti-Europeanism and denounce the government as totalitarian. So that SYRIZA presents itself today as the archangel of Europeanism and the defender of the rule of law, which has crumbled and continues to crumble at every opportunity. Didn’t he name the legally tracked flyers now? Didn’t he spy on his three ministers, blackmail judges, recruit crooks for hooded witnesses, trample on the Constitution to control information? It is arrogance on the part of those who uncomplainingly joined this policy to leave us, who supported the European perspective of the country, when it was worth it and considered, for the rejection of European ideals. The constitution, rights, democracy and Europe are nothing more than political instruments for them. No respect, just manipulation. Even those who consider the 2015 referendum problematic say outright that they covered it up so as not to harm the party. This is respect for institutions. But have they learned from their mistakes and corrected themselves? Did they engage in self-criticism? Nobody! Do they work for the European idea? Its deputies support Putin’s Russia. No matter how hard they try to reduce themselves to the Nephelococcyge of abstract principles and rights, we know that this is nothing more than a smokescreen. Behind this lies a simple lust for power, promising control over all its joints and a different geopolitical focus. But we “Stay Europe” are and will be here.
