Madagascar: 25 dead and 38,000 displaced due to tropical storm

The Disaster and Risk Management Agency said 25 people have died, 21 are missing and about 38,000 have been displaced in Madagascar after a tropical storm swept through the country’s northeast last week.

The latest count, made on Friday, put the death toll at 22.

The government agency also reports that a total of 83,181 people have been affected by these bad weather conditions, which have occurred on the island in the Indian Ocean.

A storm on January 19, named Seneso, caused flooding and half cut the roads leading to the capital Antananarivo.

In South Africa, the hurricane season lasts from November to April, and Madagascar regularly suffers from devastating effects.
