Ukrainian ethnic Hungarians reacted to the statement of the head of the Foreign Ministry of Hungary, Peter Szijarto, regarding the alleged forced mobilization of Hungarians in Transcarpathia region.

The answer (in Ukrainian and Hungarian) was published on Facebook by the deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Fedir Sandor, known in Ukraine as the “teacher from the trenches”.

“Regarding attempts to incite Ukrainians and Hungarians living in Transcarpathia, Russian agents are spreading false information about Hungarians in Transcarpathia. Similar information is also being spread in Ukraine. The goal is clear – to turn Hungarians and Ukrainians from here against each other,” Sandor writes.

“Hungarians from Transcarpathia are decent citizens of Ukraine. Thousands of Transcarpathians of all nationalities (including Hungarians) took up arms and went to fight – because we do not want Russian invaders to come to Transcarpathia and kill our relatives. We all remember how it was in the last century, we remember the concentration camps for Hungarians organized by the Russians.”

According to him, Transcarpathian Hungarians are currently on the front line, defending their land and families from Russian invaders. Sandor also thanked friends in Hungary who are helping Ukrainians in this difficult time.

“But to those who betrayed their people and joined the service of Russia, we want to say one thing – do not mock us. Goodness and truth will still win – and Russian evil will lose,” Sandor emphasized.
