The Russian Foreign Ministry said today it ordered the Latvian ambassador to leave the country within two weeks of a similar decision by Riga earlier this week amid Ukraine-related diplomatic tensions.
The ministry said it had called in Latvia’s charge d’affaires to protest Riga’s decision to downgrade relations with Russia.
“Ambassador of Latvia (Maris) Ritchins has been ordered to leave the Russian Federation within two weeks,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement deploring the “absolute Russophobia” on the part of Riga, which it accuses of being “fully responsible for current situation.”
