Bad weather: students cross suspension bridge over Evinos

An unprecedented case was recorded yesterday in Etoloakarnania, where, due to bad weather the students were forced to cross a suspension bridge and under a canopy over the rushing waters of the Evinos River.

Pupils from Famila and Stranoma Nafpaktia went to their school in Thermos yesterday morning, but later there was a big landslide on the provincial road Lutron Stachtis – Thermos.

The bus could not pass on this road. However, instead of following the indicated route through Analipsi and Khani-Banya, the students and adults accompanying them decided to cross a point on the river where there was a suspension wire bridge (70 meters long) and a canopy.

The mayor of Thermo Spyros Konstandaras cited an incident that endangered children, stating that neither he nor the district was ever advised to allow students to return home by bypassing the open road. In fact, he announced that he would come to him. prosecutor demand that all perpetrators be brought to justice, because “these situations are unacceptable.”

“At noon, instead of being notified that the children were in a hotel or that the driver would pick them up pupils to their homes, going the other way, the driver and several parents decided to transport the children across the swollen river which had a water level of 10 meters. There was no information in the area. Some parents were waiting for their children across the river. OUR detour was 1 hour. These things cannot happen over a flooded river. A fourth grader cannot enter the canopy to cross the river, not just any person. I found out about this when I saw photos on social networks and protested, called the police and asked that everyone who came there be arrested as part of an auto forum, ”Mr. Kostantaras told OPEN.

Residents of the district ask to immediately clear the road where the landslide occurred, as it is important for communication between the two villages.
