The Palestinian Authority today announced the end of security cooperation with Israel following a raid on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin that killed nine Palestinians.

“In light of repeated attacks against our people and violations of signed agreements, especially in the security area, we believe that security coordination with the occupying Israeli government is ending for the time being,” his office said in a statement. Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian Authority made a similar decision in May 2020 to protest a plan to annex parts of the West Bank to Israel.

Israeli-Palestinian security coordination (a legacy of the 1993 Oslo peace accords) resumed in November 2020. Its suspension had implications mainly for the transfer of Palestinian patients to Israeli hospitals.

Earlier today, the Israeli army carried out an operation in the Jenin refugee camp, during which nine Palestinians were killed and at least 16 injured.

According to Defense Minister Yoav Gallad, the targets were members of the Islamic Jihad organization who were planning an attack on Israel.

Incidents also occurred in other parts of the West Bank. A Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces in Al-Rama, near Jerusalem, under unclear circumstances.

Since the beginning of the year, 30 Palestinian civilians or members of armed organizations have been killed in clashes with Israeli civilians or security forces.
