Air raid sirens sounded across much of Ukraine on Thursday morning and regional authorities warned of a possible missile attack, a day after Western allies announced they would send heavy tanks to Kiev.
Two Russian missiles were spotted over the territory of the Mykolaiv region, Governor Vitaly Kim reported on his Telegram channel, Reuters reports.
“Rockets are flying inside the territory of Ukraine. At least two (go) to the northwest through the Mykolayiv region,” he said.
The electric power company DTEK announced that due to the threat of missile fire, it is conducting emergency power cuts in the capital Kyiv, in the rest of the territory of the Kyiv region, as well as in the Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Ukraine’s armed forces said their air defenses shot down all 24 Russian drones launched during the attack overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. 15 drones were shot down in the vicinity of the capital Kyiv, while no damage or casualties were reported.
