
According to UNESCO, the historical center of Odessa is in danger of disappearing as a World Heritage Site.
The UN hopes that the assignment of this status (“World Heritage in Danger”), given within the framework of the meeting of the UNESCO committee in Paris, will contribute to the protection of the cultural heritage of Odessa. which is threatened by a Russian invasion of Ukraine, opening up access to financial and technical international assistance.
During the last eleven months of the war, Russia bombed Odessa several times.
In July last year, part of the large glass ceiling and windows of the Odessa Museum of Fine Arts, opened in 1899, was destroyed.
