Two Colombian citizens have been in Ukraine since December and belonged to the 49th infantry battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the message reads.

“According to the information received from the battalion, both died in battle on January 18,” the message reads.

The ministry noted that “the embassy of Colombia in Poland contacted the wives of two citizens who were informed about the process of repatriation of the bodies.”

Colombian volunteers are fighting on both sides of the conflict in Ukraine.

Some serve in the International Defense Legion of Ukraine (LIDU). Others, former fighters of the former Marxist guerrilla group FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), are fighting against Russian and pro-separatist forces in eastern Donbas.
