Secret documents were found in the home of former US Vice President Mike Pence, an influential Republican congressman announced on Tuesday, adding to the confusion surrounding the White House archives, AFP and Agerpres reported.

“Former Vice President Mike Pence informed us today of the discovery of classified documents at his home in Indiana,” said James Comer, who is overseeing the congressional investigation into the discovery of similar files on President Joe Biden, in a statement.

Mike Pence “agrees to cooperate fully with congressional investigations,” added the chairman-elect of the House Executive Oversight Committee.

“His transparency contrasts with the attitude of Joe Biden’s staff in the White House, who continue to withhold information,” he said.

In the United States, a 1978 law requires US presidents and vice presidents to turn over all emails, letters, and other work documents to the National Archives. Another law related to espionage prohibits the storage of classified documents in unauthorized and unsecured locations.

After a leak to the press, the White House admitted that such files, dating from the time of Joe Biden’s vice presidency, from 2009 to 2017, were discovered in one of his former offices in Washington and at his family’s residence in Wilmington (Delaware, East). ).

The case is awkward because Democrats have not hesitated to criticize former Republican President Donald Trump, who is under investigation for storing boxes of documents when he leaves Washington in 2021.

To silence suspicions of bias, the Department of Justice on January 13 entrusted the investigation of Joe Biden’s affairs to an independent special prosecutor, as it did in November regarding Donald Trump.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called for “the whole story to come clean.” “What was a political problem” is now, in his opinion, “a problem of the country’s national security.”

As for Donald Trump, he sent a message of support to his former vice president, even though the two had been angry for two years.

“Mike Pence is innocent, he has never done anything dishonest in his life. Leave him,” he wrote on his Social Truth network.
