A mailbox where families and friends write messages to deceased loved ones has received more than 2,000 letters in the UK.
The mailbox was installed at the Dell, in the gardens of Walton Hall in Warrington, in November 2021, amid the pandemic.
The letters are written on biodegradable paper with wildflower seeds, which are then planted in gardens.
A spokesperson for Walton Hall said it was a place where people can come to “think and remember their loved ones”.
Lord and Lady Dursbury House was built in the 1830s, Warrington Borough bought the estate and opened the house and gardens to the public in 1945.
Councilor Tony Higgins, Leisure and Community Advisor, said: “The last few years have been difficult for all of us, especially for those who have lost loved ones and sometimes couldn’t say goodbye. I am so glad that there is now a peaceful environment where they can come to reflect on their special memories.
I hope the garden will become a much-loved area of the estate, and in time I look forward to seeing the entire garden bloom with wildflowers, creating a beautiful backdrop of color and the perfect environment for nature to thrive.”
