Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will make a two-day visit to South Africa and Mozambique on January 24-25, where he will hold a series of meetings with senior officials.

In particular, as noted in the message of the Foreign Ministry, tomorrow, January 24, the head of Greek diplomacy is expected to meet face to face with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor in Pretoria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will then travel to Johannesburg, where he will visit the SAHETI Greek School in the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Ioannina and Pretoria, Mr. Damaskinos.

He will then meet with members of the Federation of Greek Communities of South Africa and then visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

It is noted that the visit of Nikos Dendias to South Africa is the first visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece to this country in 25 years.

On Wednesday, January 25, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit Mozambique (Maputo). This is the first visit of a Greek foreign minister to the country.

During his stay in Maputo, he is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Veronica Macamo. At the end of the meeting, it is planned to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations.

After that, the Foreign Minister will be received by Prime Minister Adriano Afonso Maleyane. Then there will be meetings with the Minister of Transport and Communications Matheus Magala, His Eminence Metropolitan of Zambia and Vicar of the Holy Diocese of Mozambique Mr. Ioannis, with members of the Greek community of Maputo, as well as with General Minister of Youth and Employment Osvaldo Petersburg.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also meet with the Commander of the EUTM Mozambique Mission (European Union Training Mission in Mozambique), as well as with the Greeks who serve in the said European Union Mission.

It is expected that negotiations during the above-mentioned visits will focus on further strengthening Greece’s cooperation with specific states in a wide range of sectors, including in the field of economy, investment and culture.

In addition, discussions are expected to concern Greece’s cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations to solve common problems based on respect for international law, including international maritime law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes in its respective statement that this is the seventh trip of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Sub-Saharan Africa, which shows the importance that the Greek Government attaches to strengthening our country’s relations with the region.
