PNL First Vice-President Dan Motreanu claims in a public statement that PSD leader Marcel Çolaku is encouraging the party’s second-tier leaders to attack liberal ministers. Motreanu refers to PSD deputy Maryan’s attacks on liberals, who “out of anger started throwing handkerchiefs at their noses, on the basis of rotation.”
“It is quite difficult to have a good cooperation with the PSD in all districts, even if we can find a common denominator for many things that divide us, as long as the PSD President Marcel Čolaku encourages some of his representatives in the territory to attack PNL Ministers and representatives of the local PNL administration,” said first vice president of the PNL.
Motreanu also says that it is unacceptable that “the head of a weak PSD organization such as the one in Giurgiu attacks three PNL ministers in one position” and believes that Marcel Çolaku is the one who encourages the proposals of the PSD leaders to “bring in” ” some PNL mayors.
“There is a very big difference between the approach of Prime Minister Chuke, who never encouraged attacks in the coalition, on the contrary, he preferred not to respond when he or the NLP were attacked, and the approach of Marcel Cholaka, who encourages leaders with 2-3 echelons of the party to attack PNL ministers or encourage them to make proposals to “recruit” PNL mayors. Therefore, under these conditions, it is difficult to talk about unitary cooperation at the level of all districts between the PNL and the PSD”, said the first vice-president of the PNL, Dan Motreanu.
The reaction of Motreanu, who is also the leader of Giurgiu’s PNL, comes after Giurgiu’s PSD MP Marian Mina sharply attacked the liberals last week. Mina wrote on Facebook that the liberals “started to throw handkerchiefs through the rotation in anger”: “You don’t want to tell us what you are doing with the plagiarist Bode, with the “unofficial sources” Preda and with Popescu, the combiner in energy?!”

A PSD MP told the Liberals via a Facebook post that “the pole is swelling” and “exploding in their faces”.
The exchange of public remarks between PSD and PNL leaders appeared to take place in the context of internal discussions on the topic of the government round between the two parties, which is due to take place in May 2023.
What is the bone of contention between PSD and PNL / Why are the Social Democrats and Liberals attacking each other?
In addition to public statements, the bone of contention between the PSD and the PNL and the stakes of public attacks are related to the ministerial talks on the government ring road in May 2023. The PSD wants to keep the Ministry of Transport and Finance and publicly suggests to the Liberals that they could keep justice and funds European.
The PSD is unofficially relying on the cooperation of Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke, who has expressed his desire to keep the two portfolios in the case. The Social Democrats suggested to Chuke that they are ready to support the PNL to take over the Ministry of Development from the UDMR. Sources of HotNews.ro claim that some PNL leaders do not approve of such an understanding between Nicolae Chuke and Marcel Čolaku.
At the public level, the leaders of the SDP reported that in the government ring it is not possible to “change the players who are speaking”. PSD President Marcel Cholaku and PSD General Secretary claim that the change of the prime minister does not require a change of portfolios.

In response, PNL First Vice President Raresh Bohdan said that the rotation would be carried out “according to the formula given in the signed protocol” and that there would be no negotiations between PSD and PNL regarding the portfolios. Bohdan also stated that “introducing debates 4-5 months before the round is senseless and does not contribute to good governance.”
