US forces captured three members of the Islamic State (IS) organization during a raid in eastern Syria, the US military’s Middle East Command (CENTCOM) said, AFP reported, News.ro reported.
Among the suspects is a logistician and an IS intermediary, the commander announced in a statement on Sunday.
The third man is described by the same source as an “associate” of the jihadist group.
During the ground-helicopter assault, a civilian was lightly injured, CENTOCOM reports.
The international anti-jihadist coalition led by the United States has been conducting regular operations against members of the group since the defeat of IS in Syria in 2019.
Hundreds of US troops stationed in northeastern Syria as part of an anti-jihadist coalition continue to fight alongside the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and hold suspected IS members.
In 2022, two of the group’s leaders were killed: one in February by US special forces in northwestern Syria, and the other in October by former rebels in Daraa province (south) supported by the Bashar al-Assad regime.
